CPU
Replaced the 300MHz CPU with a 500MHz dito, and ran Sysbench again. The CPU is the same model and make (Amd k6-2), only faster. The rest of the system is exactly the same. Click here for html format, and here for txt format.
I investigated if a Amd k6-3 CPU would work with my motherboard, but found out at the Epox site, that this type of processor is only supported with revisions newer than 1.0. Mine was 0.7. Bugger... Otherwise the k6-3 series are a vast improvement as compared with the k6-2 series. Among many, the internal cache is bigger, and is also accessed with full speed buses or something. Or perhaps it was the external cache... Anyway, have a look at the Amd site if you want to know more.
The new CPU fan I bought with the new 500MHz CPU, seems to look like the old one, only the flanges are 2.5 times bigger. According to the BIOS, the CPU temperature is now at a steady 38 degrees Celsius, while the general temperture in the box itself is 23 degrees Celsius. Earlier it was at a steady 55 degrees Celsius in both the box and in the CPU...
I had to get another chassies because the extra fan I had before completely drained the power supply (read burned it completely, while blowing all the fuses in the flat...). When investigating how much a new power supply would cost I found that a completely new box would be slightly more expensive. So I bought a new box instead. This time I also got an extra fan for the cooling, but this one is somewhat smaller (8x8 cm) than the previous that was 12x12 cm. I also checked that the electrics positively would cope with the extra load. So far no outages yet... I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
Performance
Also, if you want to compare how my system performs compared with other OS/2 systems, surf over to The OS/2 Warp Benchmark Center. Search for "mjukisdata" on the results pages. There you can check how performance changes dependent on what hardware you have. Burken/3 Monolith Mk VIII is the same as Terminator, but with some upgraded and/or changed hardware/software.
Motherboard woes
The AGP-port broke for some reason, and the result was a crashing system that in the end wouldn't boot at all. Had to get another MB and another case... Blah... Benchmarks for the new MB available in html format here and regular TXT here. After having tweaked the memory bank interleave in BIOS on the new MB, I got the following results. As usual, the results are available in html or regular TXT-format.
Going, going, gone!
Terminator is scheduled to be adopted by my parents, and is therefore withdrawn from the Skynet. After stripping the still usable parts, of course. 8-) My parents are really getting big on computers. At least my father is... 8-)
