The LAN is switched, using a D-Link DES-1016D (16 ports, 10/100Mbit/s
Dual Speed Ethernet). Regular Cat5 unshielded straight TP cabling is
used. The LAN itself is connected to the 'net 24/7 using a Smoothwall Express v2.0
firewall. More about this on a separate page below. The D-Link DI-804
Internet Gateway has been retired. I plan however to use at work.
Internet connections are achieved via an Motorla cable-modem. Currently
the connection is capable of 2Mbps up- and approx 700kbps downstream. A
Powerware 5115 (750VA) UPS protects T1000, T-Extreme and Chrome
together with a 19"-monitor, from power spikes etc. The internet
connection cable is also filtered through the UPS before entering the
firewall. The cable modem is on the "outside" and not protected because
of practical reasons (cable lenghts). Like this: Cable modem -> UPS
-> Purgatorium -> switch -> LAN.
Donations are still welcome! 8-)
Skynet consists currently of the following computers:
[Chrome Mk III] [Sorkdator Mk II] [Bettan] [T1000] [T-Extreme] [Purgatorium]
